We invited Dessie Fitzgerald to be the guest of honour and keynote speaker at our annual student awards night in Coláiste Mhuire, Buttevant. There, Dessie addressed an audience of over 400 students, parents, teachers and guests. The response was quite simply overwhelming. Dessie’s insight into the power of positive thinking and resilience resonated with every single individual in the room. His openness in sharing his own extraordinary life experiences made the presentation all the more powerful. Dessie received an unusually long standing ovation at the end of what I can only describe as, one of the most compelling key note addresses I have seen.
